10幾年前，有幾位電信局機房的員工，恰巧都在同一時間內得了「鼻咽癌」，因此員工要求電信局賠款，賠款的理由是機房內有鉛酸電瓶，電瓶的發散氣體造成他們染上癌症，雖然當時醫學上尚無法證明該「鼻咽癌」是由電瓶發散的硫酸氣體所引起，但電信局最後仍以每位員工賠款台幣200萬元收場。
這個例子告訴我們，與電瓶相處要十分謹慎！

Besides the vapor of sulfuric acid as mentioned by the great "Little Cute Professor", another thing which you have to consider is the hydrogen.
Normally, the lead-acid batteries are likely to emit some hydrogen gas.
In general, the hydrogen is considered as non-toxic to human health, apart from the physical risks which arise from its flammability and explosion.
However, if your "maintenance-free" battery is well equipped with "air-tight" housing, the hydrogen emission will be very low and can be ignored in normal cases.
On the other hand, if your battery is not well sealed, the hydrogen emission is considerable. The following accumulation of hydrogen inside your cabin may cause you an "explosion risk".

But, in fact the action of "charge" is not likely to be performed inside the cabin.
So, it seems that you don't need to concern for the hydrogen emission.
